SpaceX broke ground this week on the first commercial spaceport on the Texas Gulf Coast. According to CEO Elon Musk, construction of the site should start in the middle of 2015, and by 2016 the company expects to be able to offer at least one commercial flight a month.
Florida, Georgia, and Puerto Rico were all potential locations for the new spaceport, but Brownsville was eventually chosen. Over the next three to four years, SpaceX is expected to invest nearly $100 million in the area.
