The Texas windstorm insurance association (TWIA) board last week appointed Georgia Neblett, a longtime Port Aransas native.
“I’m very honored to have been chosen and wouldn’t dream of undertaking this role were it not for the very competent board and staff we have at TWIA,” Neblett said Wednesday.
Neblett has lived in Port Aransas for more than 30 years. She was mayor there from 2004 to 2006. She currently works as director of external affairs for the University of Texas Marine Science Institute.
The board of directors typically meets four times a year, and it will be Neblett’s responsibility to run an orderly meeting, she said.
“I think insurance is vital to the economy and the consumers on the coast, and finding compromises that will work and keep insurance portable and available” within the windstorm association’s role as insurer of last resort,” Neblett said.
