History comes to the Rio Grande Valley

February 19, 2014 By Michael Stuart

You may have heard Patches & I talking about the USS Forrestal. It was the Navy’s first supercarrier. It served for 38 years, with 3,500 men & women giving their service to our country.
History comes to the Rio Grande Valley
The Forrestal will be dismantled by All-Star Metals LLC of Brownsville. The vessel has been on a long trek from Philadelphia, Pa. to Brownsville.

It will be on display & several events are being planned around the viewing of this historical supercarrier. Keep in mind, no one will be able to board the Forrestal. There will be a perimeter set up around it for safety reasons.

Until the Forrestal is completely dismantled, the vessel still belongs to the US Navy. No one will be able to get too close, not even by other vessel. You should be able to see it from the Jetti’s & Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island.
